Soft washing is a cleaning technique that uses a lower stream of pressurized water to safely clean the exterior surfaces of a house. Soft washing utilizes eco-friendly and environmentally-safe soft washing solutions with a gentle stream of water to remove bacteria, algae mold, mildew, moss, and other microorganisms. This method is used for delicate parts of your property such as siding, walkways and roofing.  A professional-grade mixture sodium hypochlorite, or bleach mixed with water can be used to remove organic matter like algae, mold, mildew, moss, and lichen, which are the primary types of growth that need to be removed during soft washing.

When to use the soft washing method?

Soft washing is the preferred method when cleaning the exterior of a home such as windows, roof shingles, screens, wood paneling, etc. The original purpose of soft washing was to clean algae off of roof shingles. Also, soft washing results in treating mold and algae last longer.   High-pressure wash simply blasts away the plant life of mold and algae without actually treating the spores. The soft wash system plus the appropriate cleaning solution eliminate the spores of the mold or algae and it takes much longer for them to reappear (a few years).

What are the differences between power washing, pressure washing, and soft washing?

The main difference between pressure and power washing is the temperature of the water. The power washing method uses hot water. Pressure washing applies a normal temperature of the water. Hot water helps to break down contaminated materials from the surface much better than cold water. In both cases, heavy-duty equipment with high-pressure water streams is used to effectively remove dirt, mold, and mildew. Pressure washing and power washing should only be used on hard surfaces such as sidewalks, patios, and driveways. Professional pressure washing machines are used by both services to properly distribute chemicals and apply the right amount of volume and pressure ratio for the surface. Soft washing is very different than the above two options because it applies a gentle stream of water. Think high volume/lower pressure. Pressure washers use about 4000 psi. Soft washing can uses just 100 psi.

The benefits of soft washing

  • Reduces the risk of building material damages

One of the benefits of soft washing is that it doesn’t damage vulnerable materials such as house siding. Regularly cleaning services will prevent damage from organisms that grow on your home and property.

  • Increases the lifespan of your roof

The roof tiles can be easily damaged from the intense pressure of the water by a pressure washing service. Also, power-washing only scrubs the siding of the roof without removing the roots that have grown in, around, and under the tiles. The soft wash technique eliminates all plant, fungal, and bacterial life and any dirt and grime from the roof safely with no risk of damage to the roofing materials. The soft washing process digs deep into cracks, crevices and grooves to dig out the cause and symptoms of discolourations.

  • Extend the life of your home

Regularly soft washing your property will increase your property’s lifespan and market value. Even if your property has no trees around it, you still need to soft wash your home at least once a year. If you don’t, you may be inviting a number of unwanted things to grow and live on your home.

When to soft wash your home?

If you have never soft-washed your home before, then you may have a question when it is better to soft wash than it is to pressure wash. Pressure washing is one of the right ways to consider if your home is covered in mud from a recent storm or when you need to wash hard outdoor surfaces. If your home has issues with moss or algae, soft washing is the right option to sanitize and protect the exterior of the home. Additionally, soft washing is a better option for more fragile surfaces and items, like windows and lights.
